A 90's Swagger for Knicks Jennings at the Perfect Time

Newly signed guard, Brandon Jennings, has always dreamed of playing in the Mecca of basketball. For him, it’s happening nine years later than he wanted, but he’s here and isn’t taking a single moment for granted.

In 2009 the Knicks held the 8th pick in the NBA draft where Davidson guard, Stephen Curry, was first on their draft board. Curry was selected 7th overall by the Golden State Warriors. Jennings was still available as the Knicks were getting set to draft, but when missing out on the drafts top shooter/point guard, the franchise decided against drafting Jennings.

From that moment on, anytime Jennings played the Knicks, especially at Madison Square Garden, he played with a chip on his shoulder and routinely dominated each game.

This offseason the Knicks signed Jennings to a one year $5 million deal, which in today’s NBA is a pretty fair bargain, as sick as that sounds to the many who work a 9-5, where a pay raise is in dollars, not millions of dollars. For Jennings it’s all about the timing.

“I should’ve been here when I first got drafted, but that’s another story. Timing is everything,” Jennings said, according to ESPN.

Jennings also envisions some old school Knicks on this year’s team.

“I see us as the old Knicks. I’m gonna be the one starting stuff on the court. Joakim Noah is also. We’re gonna be like the Anthony Mason and John Starks. We’re gonna be the ones who are always starting crap on the court,” Jennings said, according to the NY Post.

Jennings has brought back a swagger to the city, the Garden and franchise that hasn’t been seen since Mason and Stark’s Knicks of the 90’s. It only took Jennings 3 preseason games to become a fan favorite, and now an 82 game regular season set to kickoff that will enhance the fandom.

“This is New York, the Concrete Jungle. When you walk in the Garden it’s not going to be sweet at all,” Jennings said, on MSG Networks.
