Mammo Mammo Mammogram! Part 2

In my first post of Mammo Mammo Mammogram I posted a picture (included at the bottom of this post) of DC Superheroes giving themselves self-examinations, this post will provide some more information on the pictures.

The image came from the African nation of Mozambique and their Public Health office/ DDB as part of their breast cancer awareness campaign in 2011. This campaign featured four of DC’s most badass female superheroes, Wonder Woman, Storm, She-hulk and Catwoman. The image is of the heroes checking their breasts for lumps.

Maisa Chaves drew the superheroes; she works for DDB Mozambique as an illustrator in advertising. I found a bio on Chaves where she talks about her style of advertising, “I try for different styles for my illustrations so to keep it fresh for my contracting Agency.”

Mozambique isn’t afraid to be different when it comes to their campaign, if it willhelp women go to see their doctors more and get checked out. The Superhero campaign on cancer reads, “When we talk about breast cancer, there’s no women or superwomen. Everybody has to do the self-examination monthly. Fight with us against the enemy and, When in doubt, talk with your doctor.”
