How many types of cancer are out there? No need to go look it up I’ll tell you, more than 100 types of cancer. All different types ranging from abnormal cell growth, and different causes for them. While doing research I came upon an article on the Huffington Post website and I learned that every year 12.7 million people will find out that they have some type of cancer. That’s millions of people who have to deliver bad news to their loved ones, that millions or hearts being broken, and tears being shed.

What’s the best way to deliver bad news to the ones you love, Life changing news? I’ll tell you one thing, don’t not tell them. According to Alex Lickerman M.D. here are the steps of delivering bad news;

  1. Do it

  2. Prepare yourself to feel badly

  3. Set the context

  4. Deliver the bad news clearly and unequivocally

  5. Stop for reactions

  6. Ask for questions

  7. Never destroy hope

  8. Make a plan

  9. Follow up

Now it all seams easier said than done. After the news is out and everyone knows it makes it easier to deal with the news and support each other.

I hope this post will help anyone debating delivering bad news to some loved ones. Remember it is better said, than not said.
