A nationally televised game, at Madison Square Garden, where the defending champion Cleveland Cavilers sent a message to Phil Jackson and his New York Knicks.
The extra motivation for the games best player, LeBron James, came a few weeks prior to the contest, when Jackson referred to James’s close friends/associates as “his posse.” James took exception to it, rightfully so, and annihilated Jackson’s Knicks from start to finish, as the “Zen Master,” looked on.
The Cavaliers destroyed the Knicks 126-94 and ended a four game win streak. James may never admit it, but he played angry and since he couldn’t take it out on Jackson, he took it out on his Knicks.
“I’m motivated by my love of the game, by the process, by my kids being able to watch me on TV,” James said, according to the NY Post.
Meanwhile, before the game, Jackson was speaking on his own star player, Carmelo Anthony, and how he has the tendency to hold the ball when he gets it on offense. Jackson has grown to have a big mouth full of hot air, ever since he’s become the Knicks president.
“I don’t even know what was said. I don’t even want to talk about that. I want to stay away from that at this point. My focus is on my teammates and winning. Whatever Phil said, he said,” Anthony said, following the game, according to the NY Post.
The Knicks fell to (12-10) on the season, as the Cavaliers improved to (15-5) with their second blowout of the Knicks on national television.
“It’s definitely embarrassing getting blown out on national television, in front of your fans, your home building. Nobody wants to get blown out on national TV,” Brandon Jennings said, according to the NY Post.
Jackson’s Knicks have a long way to go before challenging or even being a serious competition for the Cavaliers. Jackson himself may be closer to leaving New York, than he is to changing the culture and bring a championship back to the Mecca of basketball.
